StraightToThePint is now faster than ever.
Over the last week or so I have been hard at work compressing images, researching, editing and testing ( lots...and lots of testing ) To make S2TP as fast and responsive as possible! If anyone is interested in the details behind the scene to optimize the site, I'll be writing a tutorial covering the entire process from start to finish and will make sure to post the link back here once it's complete.
While I've done extensive testing on different devices, browsers and versions - If you do happen to find a display/functionality issue that I missed, I would really appreciate it if you let me know so I can fix it straight away.
As promised - I detailed the process of speeding up the site in case it helps anyone else!
Improve Website Performance Guide
It took me half the day... But I think I finally got site optimization working as cleanly as possible 🙂
While most of the site optimization was done a few months back, I never was quite able to nail down JS minification and exclusions. So after spending a good few hours browsing through forums and dissecting Chromes console view I think I got everything to work in harmony now.
Still needs some additional testing, but so far everything looks solid.
Making Progress! Page speed has once again improved after another round of trial by fire testing.
I think site speed has hit a plateau for now, as the only other changes I think will make any noticeable difference at this point would be moving to a dedicated host plan (requires the traffic to warrant this first) and removing/reducing images. While I am prepared to over-haul the sites menu structure in the future to improve performance if necessary, for the time being I think I need to get back to creating content for awhile 🙂
If anyone is interested in the details....
- JS minification
- Removed Render Blocking Custom CSS from the Jetpack Plugin and inlined it with Autoptomize
add_filter( 'jetpack_implode_frontend_css', '__return_false' );
- Properly re sized all post images
- Added PHP Extensions ( http, image wizard & apc )
- Enabled PHP Fastcgi
- Installed & configured Plugin optimizer to disable any non-essential plugins and their corresponding resources from loading when not required on a page.
P.S. - Site speed may be impacted slightly while new features and testing are underway over the next few weeks, but I assure you it will stabilize soon.
